Dishes of DISH: Mini Meatballs from Lala's Wine Bar

On Sunday, September 7, 2014, Westword will host its twentieth annual celebration of the Denver dining scene, DISH, in Sculpture Park at the Denver Performing Arts Complex, where many of the favorite restaurants of Cafe Society writers and readers will be serving delectable dishes. For example, Lala's Wine Bar + Pizzeria, a trusty standby in Governor's Park, will come to DISH with a plate of savory mini meatballs.

Lala's has been turning out quality pizza and serving as a neighborhood hangout since it opened in 2008. While the pizza is a major draw, Lala's does wonders with charcuterie and entrees, too. The meatballs Lala's is bringing to DISH also make cameos in the restaurant's stromboli and star on their own as a happy-hour appetizer.

These special meatballs are made with both ground lamb and ground pork shoulder, as well as bacon, with egg to bind it all together. Lala's uses risotto in its meatballs instead of breadcrumbs, so they come out gluten-free.

Meatballs are just one of the offerings you'll find at DISH, which runs from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 7. (VIP entrance is at 11 a.m.) To see what else is in store and buy tickets for this culinary celebration's twentieth anniversary, visit the 2014 DISH site.
