Sparrows are considered rather common, but common is not the word you would use to describe the new restaurant that bears the bird's name. An enthusiastic foursome is trying to make Sparrow fly in the space that over the past two decades has housed Transalpin, JV's the Cork, Sacre Bleu and Vega. They're off to a good start: With the new open kitchen, chef's table, smoker-friendly secret garden and an interior redesign that feels less intimidating, this is now a place where you can nest very comfortably. And what should you swallow at Sparrow ? I adore the Blue Footed Booby ($6.50), made of Boodles gin muddled with fresh huckleberries, ginger beer and mint. Strangely, this gin cocktail has only a tiny, luscious juniper-berry aftertaste, with none of the gin bite. For a yummy adult lemonade, try the Yellow Throated Warbler ($6.50) made with Ketel One Citroen, Caravella limoncello, fresh lemon and a splash of club soda. And the Flamingo ($6.50), made with Ketel One Citroen, fresh lime juice, Sprite and a splash of Chambord, should fluff anyone's feathers. Fly on over to Sparrow. I guarantee tweet dreams.
