Morrison's menu will be exactly the same as the original, save for one dish: nachos, which he's tweaking. "The menu won't change, except for the addition of nachos -- we're playing around with those, but haven't quite nailed them yet," he says. And the taqueria will also pour its namesake liquid assets, along with housemade liqueurs, which are also a new addition.
The 82-seat space -- larger than the City Park spot -- is similar in style, with a dark-wooded picnic table, a communal bar that stretches for yards, hardwood floors, innovative light fixtures, including industrial pulleys illuminated with Edison bulbs, a huge back bar with antiquated plumber pipe shelving and a blue-tiled open kitchen where voyeurs can banter with the cooks assembling their tacos.
But what this second incarnation has that the original doesn't is garage doors that open to a spacious patio that seats 22 -- and you can bet that it'll be packed during the warm months with plenty of revelers knocking back tequila. Speaking of which, Morrison is also offering lockers for $100, which gives you six months of spirits storage. He also features the same program at the York Street location. "It's been so successful at the other restaurant that we have a waiting list," he says.
Pinche will open on Wednesday, February 13 at 3 p.m., and regular hours will be from 3 to 10 p.m. on Monday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
I stopped by yesterday to check out the space, the photos of which are on the following pages. Cheers!
