Support the independent voice of Denver and help keep the future of Westword free.
The next time you're munching on a tea cookie from Gateaux, our Best Bakery of 2001, you can take pride in the fact that a few of your dollars are going to a good cause. This year, Gateaux is giving 10 percent of all tea cookie sales to a different charity every month.
"We decided to allocate our donations this way in honor of our tenth anniversary," explains assistant manager Rachel Wille. "With this we are able to give back to the community that has been so generous to us over the years, and many of the charities hold special meaning to our staff."
The charities for the rest of the year:
March: Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America
April: Project Angel Heart
May: Concerts for Kids
June: Work Options for Women
July: Jack and Jill
August: Catholic Charities
September: Serenity School for Autism
October: Breast Cancer Research
November: Johnson & Wales University Scholarship Fund
December: Denver Hospice
Gateaux is located at 1160 North Speer Boulevard; call the bakery at 303-376-0070.
Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
