Instacart, an online and mobile app-based grocery-delivery company, debuted its service in Denver earlier this year, offering delivery from a number of metro-area supermarket chains. Customers can place orders of $10 or more with Safeway, Whole Foods, King Soopers and Costco and have them delivered in as little as an hour -- depending on the price point they select. And as of yesterday, Instacart customers can also select groceries from Marczyk Fine Foods, including prepared foods and specialty sandwiches made by Marczyk's staff.

"We're psyched," says co-owner Pete Marczyk. "We're Instacart's first independent grocery in Colorado." Marczyk Fine Foods is are known for its high-quality meats, seasonal produce and fresh-baked breads, all of which will be available for delivery from the flagship store of the family-owned business, along with gourmet pantry items, housemade ice cream and other fancy treats.

"It allows us to be a better neighbor," adds Marczyk. "We don't have the resources internally to handle delivery ourselves -- Instacart is a very excellent interface between us and customers." Delivery will be available from the East 17th Avenue store to a limited area in order to meet Instacart's service goals, but Marzcyk hopes business will be brisk enough that he'll be able to add the East Colfax location soon. If requests from customers are any indication, that shouldn't be a problem. "If there's one common theme from customers," he adds, "it's 'I wish you guys were closer.'"

And for those who want to mix and match, Instacart offers the ability to order from more than one company in a single delivery, so you can stock up on paper towels and laundry detergent while still getting your high-end beef cuts from Marczyk. Instacart keeps its costs down by crowdsourcing delivery drivers who use their own vehicles. Membership is free, but there's also an annual option for $99 that eliminates delivery fees on all purchases over $35.
