Support the independent voice of Denver and help keep the future of Westword free.

While many of you are out cheering on the Rockies at today's home opener and reveling (win or lose) at the Ballpark neighborhood's many bars and restaurants, one of Denver's most anticipated new eateries, Solitaire, is quietly throwing out its first pitch today in West Highland, in the former home of Highland's Garden Cafe.

Not too far away in Uptown, Gretchen Kurtz visited D Bar Denver to see if chef-owner Keegan Gerhard's relocated restaurant was playing its A game or striking out. Beer Man Jonathan Shikes checked in at the former Five Points DMV to get a look at a new brewery called Spangalang. And in his weekly Ethniche series, Mark Antonation hunted for gochujang at Aurora Korean soup spot Tofu House. In other news:

Solitaire, 3927 West 32nd Avenue
Spangalang Brewery, 2736 Welton Street

Beauty Bar, 608 East 13th Avenue
Wok Eat, 2440 Pearl Street, Boulder

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
