kaTcH Fish House, which opened early this summer at 1300 Pennsylvania Street, apparently didn't catch on with neighbors in the Capitol Hill 'hood, because the space, barely five months old, sunk at the end of October. "It's very simple," says former co-owner Chris Deutschman. "There wasn't enough business."

Chris, who, along with his wife, Emily, also owns Magnolia Restaurant and Sushi Bar in Lafayette, points to the location as the main obstacle, but says that there weren't quite as many Denver fish heads as they had hoped, either. But while the concept didn't work in Capitol Hill, Chris notes that he's open to other locations. "We've got everything in storage, and if the right opportunity arises, then we'll consider it," he says.

In the meantime, if you're looking for a space to open a new restaurant...

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
