The Best of Denver 2013 has hit the streets, and once again, LoHi is our Best Restaurant Neighborhood. At the end of 2012, the LoHi Merchant Group did a count of all the eateries in the area and came up with over fifty -- more than double the count from six years ago. And while new spots are opening all the time, older spots are upping their game with new menus and interior overhauls. Masterpiece Deli, for example, which will be closing today at 4 p.m. for what should be a quick, one-day renovation.
Owner Justin Brunson, who opened the deli five years ago and expanded the breakfast/lunch spot to include dinner hours last year, definitely has his hands full. He opened Old Major at the end of February and will be retooling that restaurant's menu this weekend, taking it for a test run with Sunday brunch.
But in the meantime, he doesn't want to ignore his first LoHi spot. In fact, it was seeing how beautiful Old Major looks that made him decide that Masterpiece needed some "loving." Nothing major (so to speak), just new paint and other quick fixes.
