As fast-casual concepts go, meatballs make sense. They can be prepared ahead and finished to order, they're bite-sized, and they travel well. The part that takes explaining, as I say in this week's review of Slotted Spoon Meatball Eatery, is what this new place puts meatballs on. Bread makes sense. Pasta is to be expected. But salads?
Then again, maybe meatballs will undergo the same transformation as coffee. Hard as it is to believe now, with coffee shops on every corner and in every grocery store, the thought of pouring coffee over ice used to be inconceivable, even laughable. No one -- except maybe an eccentric aunt -- would drink coffee once it's cold, right?
What's your prediction? Will meatballs on greens be the iced coffee of tomorrow? I know three guys at Slotted Spoon Meatball Eatery are hoping the answer is yes.
