Tickets to Do at the Zoo, next Thursday June 18, are still available for $175 each. But the Denver Zoo is giving you one last shot a getting in for free. If you choose the winning name for the cocktail in the photo above, you'll win two tickets to the tony affair, which will feature dishes from more than 60 Denver restaurants, live entertainment and unlimited cocktails and regional wines.
To enter the contest, "like" the Denver Zoo's Facebook page, then post a comment (one per person) with the name you've chosen for the cocktail. Get your entry in by Sunday, June 14; it can be based on the cocktail's ingredients, the drink's appearance or just about anything zoo-animal related. Here's the recipe, provided by the Crafted Concepts restaurant group, which includes Rioja, Bistro Vendome, Euclid Hall, and Stoic & Genuine, using ingredients provided by National Distributing Co.:
1.5 ounces Svedka Grapefruit Jalapeno vodka
0.5 ounces almond orgeat
0.5 ounce lime juice
0.5 ounce mint simple syrup
Mint sprig garnish
The winner will be selected on June 15. Of course, you can still buy tickets on the Denver Zoo's website ($300 VIP tickets are already sold out); all proceeds from the event go toward the Zoo's education programs. Just remember to wear your finest cocktail attire — or something in a jungle print.
