Readers: Developers Do Not Care About the Buildings and Neighborhoods They Destroy

After 115 years in Denver, Dickinson Plaza is no longer owned by the Dickinson family — and, in fact, the building at West 32nd and Tejon Street will soon be razed for a project that calls for a five-story apartment complex. In the process, nine businesses will lose their homes — including Mary Jane's, the very-late-night pizza place; a walk-up Juicing Tree; an outpost of Fat Jack's, a homegrown sandwich mini-chain; and the beloved Laughing Latte coffee shop, which Trax Henderson bought less than a year ago. And he's not laughing about having to move. Nor are others who see the changes in Denver. Says John:

 Developers do not give a single fuck about the neighborhoods and buildings they destroy; all they care about is money. They're leeches on our neighborhoods, our community, our history and our built heritage, especially the out-of-state firms and people who have no ties to Denver/the neighborhoods they're ruining with their gyp-board, particle board, shoebox shit.

Worse are the morons who gladly pay stupid prices for these architectural failures instead of investing in an historic home and the neighborhood itself. They bring chain stores, Starbucks and $2000 paid for designer mutts and promptly fuck over residents who have been there for generations, newbies with their "me first, I've got money, fuck you" attitudes.

We are witnessing the homogenization and blanding of Denver into another Pasadena, Scottsdale, Plano, Kingwood or name-another-bland-suburb.

It's disgusting.
