Seven Tips for Creating Your Own Cannabis-Themed Dinner

Kendal Norris and her company, Mason Jar Event Group, have done it again. The most recent of her signature seasonal Cannabis Pairing Dinners, which took place last weekend, allowed guests to combine a high-end cannabis experience with fairy-tale scenery and amazing food.

Beginning the night with a shuttle service from Sweet Leaf Dispensary to Shupe Homestead Farm in Boulder County, guests socialized, ate hors d'oeuvres and drank cannabis-infused iced tea, all against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. 

Sitting down to a dinner prepared by award-winning chef Hosea Rosenberg of Blackbelly, participants were serenaded by live music and conversation with other marijuana lovers. While none of the food was prepared with marijuana or cannabis-based extracts, each guest was given a goodie bag filled with items specifically chosen to pair with the meal.

We were so inspired by the beauty, creativity and mastery that Norris and her team created for their Summer Seasonal Dinner, we've created a list of tips for you, should you wish to host your own backyard cannabis-infused soirée.
1. Prepare a Fun and Comfortable Table
The best part about having an outdoor dinner is the flexibility. Using mismatched glasses and plate settings adds a whimsical touch and makes the event feel more relaxed and less fussy. If you opt out of a tablecloth, use funky, outdoorsy place mats like the ones pictured above. Make sure there's enough room on the table for serving dishes so you or your guests don't have to run back and forth into the house to refill plates.
2. Mix Creative Drinks
Add a second table off to the side with glasses or a pitcher for guests to quench their thirst. Mason Jar partnered with Stillwater, which infuses organic teas with 2.5 milligrams of water-soluble THC, to give its alcohol-free cocktails a THC-infused kick. Because of the low dose, the tea is a great option to serve at the beginning of a meal — similar to a pre-dinner cocktail. The idea is to relax, not intoxicate.

"We equate it to taking three deep breaths," Stillwater's Missy Bradley says of the tea.
Mason Jar used a Stillwater recipe called Half and Half, which combines one stick of the Blissful Black Tea with water and lemonade. Mint sprigs and lemon slices were added to each glass. Stillwater also provides other recipes online using the company's Green Apple Iced Tea and Coco-Ginger-Mint Iced Tea. Mason Jar added little flags to the top of each glass to remind guests that the tea contained THC. This is a great idea, depending on the size of your gathering.

 3. Set the Mood with Music
Even if you don't have a live band, throwing on some of your favorite tunes will get everyone in a good mood. Mason Jar hired the Lonesome Days to set the mood with bluegrass melodies. The scene could have been straight out of a music video, with the beautiful mountain range spanning the horizon in the distance.
4. Provide Top Chef-Worthy Food
The more colorful the better! Rosenberg combined beautiful summer colors to make the meal as gorgeous as it was delicious. Using beets, both yellow and purple, along with greens and radishes in a salad will bring the brightness of summer into your bowl. Continuing the summer theme, the chef's pork was accompanied by a mint-leaf garnish, and dessert was amaretto ice cream atop a warm cherry cobbler.

5. BYOW (Bring Your Own Weed)
What's a marijuana-themed soirée without the bud? Remind your guests to bring their own weed, because providing cannabis for events (private or otherwise) is a grey area under Colorado law. Mason Jar partnered with Sweet Leaf dispensary for the dinner, providing guests with two strain samples and rolling papers.

"I always want to be your grandma's favorite dispensary," says Nichole West of Sweet Leaf.

We think your grandma would have to be pretty baller to smoke with you, much less walk into a dispensary herself, but if you have one who would, more power to you. If grandma's invited, she should also bring her own.

If you want to really impress your guests, order a few Weekender cases for them to transport their weed. Created by Jane West, this plastic compact is a big step up from your usual plastic bag or dispensary canister and has compartments for up to five different varieties of weed.

6. Finish With Decadent Dessert
BlueKudu provided marijuana-infused black-cherry dark chocolate for dessert. BlueKudu offers nine types of chocolate to choose from, so you're sure to find a flavor that will fit perfectly with the rest of your meal.

7. Send Friends Home With Goodie Bags

Partnering with Anonymous Bags allowed guests to take their remaining bud home in a locked bag. The bags cannot be unzipped without a key, keeping your marijuana away from children and pets. The bags are also made with an opaque fabric that's engineered to help obscure the scent of the contents.
