There's been a lot of restaurant action on South Pearl Street since the beginning of the year: the Pearl Street Grill, India's Pearl and Ototo moved out, Seven Cups dried up and Izakaya Den announced a move, making way for the Wynkoop/Breckenridge group to take over that space.
Now, there's more change in the works.
Kayvan Khalatbari, who opened Sexy Pizza in Capitol Hill four years ago, is opening a second outlet of his New York-style Pizzeria in less than a month. "We're planning for a March 7 opening," he says. "We signed everything yesterday, so we're a little busy at the moment."
The lease, he reveals, is for an existing restaurant space near Sushi Den, though he won't reveal exactly where just yet, since the current tenant hasn't announced its plans to close. But once he does take over the space, he'll make only minor cosmetic changes and upgrade the hood.
Better yet, "This location has a liquor license, which is new for us," he says, adding that he's also working on getting a beer and wine license at the original location. Khalatbari will expand his menu, too, adding a few new items. He's also working, he notes, on adding more charitable pies — made for specific non-profits, which garner $1 from each sale of that pizza — at both locations. "I would love to do a pie with the Denver Dumb Friends League," he says.
