Sonoda's has shuttered at 550 Broadway. This location wasn't technically part of the local sushi chain; two years ago, it was sold to a former employee of Sonoda's with permission to use the name. But the spot had been struggling of late and once the lease was up, the current owner decided to close it. The closure came soon after Sonoda's neighbor, Il Vicino, closed in anticipation of a move to South Gaylord, leaving Bombay Bowl, Jamba Juice, Noodles & Company and Chipotle as the only dining options in this plaza at Sixth and Broadway.

Sonoda's other locations -- 1620 Market Street, 9623 East County Line in Englewood and 3108 South Parker in Aurora -- are all open for business as usual.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
