Remember Supermarket Sweep? Well, Guy's Grocery Games, a new Food Network show from Guy Fieri, is kind of like that -- except you have to run through the grocery store with a budget in mind, find ingredients with which you can cook a meal, and suffer through Fieri's yapping.

Although you won't get to enjoy Guy's frosty tips in person, you can still get in the game today.

From 1 to 3 p.m., the Safeway in Lone Tree will host its own Grocery Games, giving four local contestants the opportunity to test their shopping and culinary expertise during three challenges -- and all for a chance to win a $1,000 Safeway gift card.

Registration begins at 1 p.m. at the Safeway at 9229 East Lincoln Avenue. Tune in to Alice 105.9 FM for more details.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
