Support the independent voice of Denver and help keep the future of Westword free.

Chris Loffelmacher serves up plenty of food for thought at Fresh City Life, his cultural/social series that's turned the Denver Public Library into the hottest ticket in town. Now, in celebration of summer and this hot, hot weather, Fresh City Life is teaming up with Whole Foods Market, Dazzle Restaurant and the Seasoned Chef Cooking School on "Potato Salad Wars."

"Everyone has a favorite family recipe for potato salad," Loffelmacher points out, and if the judges agree that yours is best, you could win a $200 shopping spree at Whole Foods, part of a prize package totaling $450.

To enter the contest, just send your recipe -- an original family recipe, please -- to Loffelmacher at cloffel@denverlibrary.org no later than noon Tuesday, July 21. A panel of judges will narrow down the entries to six finalists, with a final, public tasting on August 1 at the Central Library.

Start your engines -- and your water boiling. For more info, go to www.denverlibrary.org/fresh. And no fair turning in Pete Marczyk's recipe for his mother's potato salad, offered here last week.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
