Slinging craft beers requires knowledge beyond the basic pour. Everybody knows what Bud Light tastes like, but how many people can answer on-the-fly questions about lager versus ale, hops versus malts and everything in between?

From 6 to 9:30 p.m. tonight, Left Hand Brewing Company and the Old Chicago outpost at 1415 Market Street will host the inaugural Craft Beer Bartender Challenge.

Competing bartenders will be judged on their knowledge of ten different craft beers from five different breweries, including Ska, Avery, Bristol, Left Hand and California's Stone Brewery; Left Hand's own Bubba Love will emcee. Bartenders will be judged on presentation skills, brewery and beer-style knowledge, pouring skills and usage of the proper glassware.

The general public is welcome to watch the proceedings, so come along and cheer on your favorites -- and maybe learn a little something about craft beer along the way. To get more info, call 303-777-0258.
