Things to Do

Tonight: Your beer money benefits Community Food Share at Pizzeria Basta

Forgot to donate on Colorado Gives Day? Then you might want to head down to Pizzeria Basta, 3601 Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder, for a beer.

The alcohol will take the edge off your guilt, and so will the fact that your beer money's going straight to Community Food Share, a food bank that serves Boulder and Broomfield counties.

"Hoppy Face donated two kegs of beer for a party," says co-owner Alan Henkin. "So we're hosting Hoppy Holidays Bluegrass Charity Jam."

Which will feature bluegrass, as the name suggests. Specifically, Coleman Square and Red Vanryders, which will roll in around 6 p.m. to play together. And while that's going on, Basta will pour Hoppy Face amber ale for a suggested donation price (though what you want to fork over is entirely up to you). Everything the pizzeria collects for the beer will go right to the food banks -- so drink up, and pay up.

Throughout the party, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m., Pizzeria Basta will also be serving its regular menu. For more information, call 303-997-8775.

KEEP WESTWORD FREE... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Laura Shunk was Westword's restaurant critic from 2010 to 2012; she's also been food editor at the Village Voice and a dining columnist in Beijing. Her toughest assignment had her drinking ten martinis and eating ten Caesar salads over the course of 48 hours. She still drinks martinis, but remains lukewarm on Caesar salads.
