We have a winner of our Gourmet on Gore Tasting Tour contest, in which we asked Cafe Society readers to answer this question: How many lobster tacos did Matsuhisa serve at last year's Gourmet on Gore? Congratulations to haleyhennes, who guessed 2,320, just one digit off the actual number of 4,320. Haleyhennes, we'll send you an e-mail with info about how to claim your prize.
Original post: Labor Day weekend is full of culinary jubilations, including the Taste of Colorado. But if you want to get the hell out of town -- and away from the oppressive heat -- head to Vail, the site of Gourmet on Gore, an outdoor culinary and libations festival that kicks off on August 30 and runs through September 2.
The open-air soiree, which takes place along Vail's Gore Creek Drive and Bridge Street, showcases foodstuffs from a multitude of Vail Valley restaurants -- Batter Cupcakes, Big Bear Bistro, Campo de Fiori, CinéBistro, Elway's Vail, Flame Restaurant, Larkburger, Larkspur Restaurant, La Tour, Matsushia, Mountain Cupcakes, Mountain Standard, Pepi's Restaurant, Up the Creek Bar & Grill, Restaurant Kelly Liken, Sonnenalp, Sweet Basil, Vail Marriott, Taste5 and The 10th -- as well as wine, spirits and beers from across the globe.
"Combining delicious food and superb drinks, Gourmet on Gore has become an annual Labor Day tradition in the Vail Valley," says James Deighan, organizer and founder of Highline Sports and Entertainment, a company that also produces FEAST! Vail.
One of the signature events is the Friday night Gourmet on Gore Tasting Tour, a progressive dinner that unfolds at several Vail restaurants and includes a cocktail as well as hors d'oeuvres. And while tickets to the Tasting Tour are $75 each, you and a guest can attend the moveable feast for free.
But in order to win the tickets, you'll need to answer this question: How many lobster tacos did Matsuhisa serve at last year's Gourmet on Gore?
The person who comes the closest to the actual number without going over, will win. To enter, please submit your best guess, your name and a valid e-mail address (if you're already registered with MyVoiceNation, then we have your e-mail; if you're not, then we don't, and without an e-mail address, you can't win) in the comments section below.
We'll announce the winner by 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 29.
