How Four Different Chubby's Restaurants Stack Up

El Chubby's, 9865 East Hampden in Aurora, has a sign posted inside disavowing any relationship to the original Chubby's or another El Chubby's at 1191 South Abilene, which was opened by one of Stella's ten children before being sold.

Leonard Cordova, another of Stella's grandsons, owns two Chubbys Bubbachinos, including this one near 1st and Federal, where the logo is strikingly similar to the original Chubby's.
2/12

The Chubby's Bubbachino's logo looks strikingly similar to this one from the original Chubby's at 38th and Lipan.
3/12

As for the food, In a blind taste test, Westword employees rated the Mexican Hamburger at the original Chubby's to be the best.
4/12

The fries at Stella Cordova's restaurant came in second. Though the chile was hotter and better than the others, the fries were undercooked.
5/12

Stella's grandson Julian Cordova owns the Chubby's at 8330 Washington Street, where the chile fries took first place.
6/12

The Mexican hamburger at Julian's joint was a good second best.
7/12

The logo may be the same, but the food is not. The Chubbys Bubbachino's Mexican Hamburger just didn't carry the same kick as the original.
8/12

Like the hamburger, the Chubbys Bubbachino's fries were bland.
9/12

The food at El Chubby's is marginal at best. You'd have to be really drunk to enjoy this crap.
10/12

We hate to imagine what these awful El Chubby's fries would taste like on the way back up.
11/12

If your gastronomical dreams don't look like this, there's something wrong with you.

The original Chubby's at 38th Avenue and Lipan is owned by Stella Cordova, the 98-year-old matriarch of the Cordova clan. If you could only have one meal at Chubby's, Stella Cordova recommends the green-chile smothered Mexican hamburger and chile cheese fries, so Westword visited four unrelated Denver-area Chubby's to compare them.
