Help us weather the uncertain future

We know — the economic times are hard. We believe that our work of reporting on the critical stories unfolding right now is more important than ever.

We need to raise $17,000 to meet our goal by August 10. If you’re able to make a contribution of any amount, your dollars will make an immediate difference in helping ensure the future of local journalism in Denver. Thanks for reading Westword.

If Lakeside Amusement Park was taken over by artists and crafters, it would look something like Monkey See, Monkey Do: A Do-It-Yourself Carnival. Today at Capsule Art & Event Center, 560 Santa Fe Drive, rather than hopping on the Tilt-A-Whirl or the Whip, folks will trade in tickets to try their hand at screen printing, learn how to convert an ordinary vacuum cleaner into a race car, or have graffiti artists divulge the secret to reading their art.

The goal is to embrace the old saying "Learning can be fun," but organizer Lauri Lynnxe Murphy really hopes that "people's curiosity will be piqued, and that will make them want to explore more."

Do it yourself tonight from 6 to 10 p.m.; tickets are $1 apiece, and each carnival "ride" costs between one and five tickets. For more information, visit www.capsuledenver.com or call 303-623-3460.
