It’s been a whirlwind few years for Half Alive, the Long Beach indie-pop trio that found itself in YouTube’s good graces with the release of the mindbending “still feel” video. The clip, which racked up some 10 million views in two months and now sits at 27 million, features elaborate choreography and more than a few costume changes, but that’s no gimmick: Half Alive’s live shows are bona fide spectacles, with dancers as part of the lineup. As for the music? The band is no slouch in that department, either, producing super-sleek indie rock with funk bass lines, airy percussion and velvety piano. It’s a little bit like Passion Pit for Gen Z — but you don’t have to be under eighteen to enjoy it.
