"Scene and Herd," Off Limits, November 24

Take Cover!

With so much exceptional art in the Denver art community, it pains me to see the coverage of Colorado Uncovered. For those of us who love and appreciate fine art, it is a real reminder of everything clichéd in what the mainstream considers "art." I find myself offended as both a woman and an artist. Yay, another male photographer taking the same old pictures of naked women, stereotyping what a beautiful female figure is. Wow, nobody has ever done that...

What this book is missing are real people, both men and women, of varying body types, who actually make up this community.

Women posing nude in unlikely spots in a major city? Never seen that before...

The point of Colorado Uncovered is perfectly executed to "point out" the sleeping underbelly of our great city. As a former gallery owner, I am honored to view such a piece that is much more deep than first meets the eye of someone who is merely looking at a naked body in the midst of the city. Beauty upon beauty, soon to be ruined by the greed of developers.

"Welcome to Arapahell," Alan Prendergast, November 24

Standing Pat

What a ridiculous bunch of bleeding hearts reside at Westword! You must have dug deep to find the strange plant-on-the-porch story in order to make your case against Arapahoe DA Carol Chambers. Out of 623 habitual-criminal filings, wasn't there a more representative example of the kind of scum that Chambers is trying to get locked up in order to keep us safe in Arapahoe County? Seriously!

When someone decides to make criminal activity their career, I want people like Carol in charge, doing their best to keep them out of our way. I personally would support a point system for criminals, similar to what happens with our driver's licenses. Assign point values that increase with the seriousness or violence of the crime, and when your convictions total 100 points, you're executed. End of your hoodlum story, happy ending for ours.

How much will Carol "Pay for Convictions, Justice Can Wait" Chambers pony up to put Pat Sullivan away for a few years? I bet he doesn't serve a sixteenth of a bitch!

Name withheld on request

Alan Prendergast's article on Arapahoe County DA Carol Chambers was very good. I enjoy all his work. I completely agree with all Ms. Chambers's actions; my only question is why four strikes — three is the norm, and one strike would be even better. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. There are no small crimes. I am sure Dennis Pauls will be back in front of a judge again and again.

"Go, Buffalos!," Off Limits, November 17

Hit the Road

I'm sure thousands have already pointed out this glaring error, but "Go, Buffalos!" repeatedly refers to the expressway between Denver and Boulder (alongside which the bison herd is proposed to be located) as "I-36." This highway is not part of the interstate highway system; it is officially designated as U.S. 36. In fact, there is no I-36 anywhere in the U.S.

I still think the probing journalistic integrity of Patricia Calhoun and your staff are unmatched assets to our city, Westword, and I seldom fail to read you on a weekly basis.
