Downtown Littleton is high on sugar

When it comes to sugar, downtown Littleton is on a high. On Main street alone, there's the relatively new Lola's Sugar Rush (2490 West Main Street), which would make Augustus Gloop go bat shit. The town's main drag also houses the Chocolate Therapist (2560 West Main Street), a confectionery run by Julie Perch, a Colorado-based author and chocolatier who  -- get this -- makes it her job to actually extol the health virtues of chocolate. Need a chocolate prescription? Welcome to your drug locker.

Not sure how Perch feels about cakes and cookies, but just a few blocks down the street from her shop sits two vacated storefronts that will soon become Beautiful Sweets, a sugar shack at 2299 West Main Street that'll pimp baked goods, all-organic sugar cookies, sandwiches, coffee and gelato, says owner Laina Mickus, who plans to turn the two adjoining spaces into a commercial kitchen and retail space sometime in September.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
