Only three months ago, we reported that Pho De had opened in the spot previously occupied by Lotus Vegetarian Restaurant and, before that, Vietnam Grill -- the quaint bistro that had won Best Vietnamese Restaurant in our 2013 Best of Denver edition. But the stock pot at Pho De had barely come to a rolling boil before it closed; a new restaurant is moving in -- and it's not Vietnamese. Suvipa Thai Food is opening its doors today, bringing something a little different to this stretch of Federal Boulevard.

Suvipa will be only the second Thai restaurant on Federal, after veteran J's Noodle Star Thai just a block north.

A hand-written sign in the window promises that the Thai eatery will open today, but does not give a specific time.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
