Support the independent voice of Denver and help keep the future of Westword free.

I stopped by Hi*Rise yesterday, hoping to grab a sandwich, but as the sign in the window promised, March 14 was the opening day -- "Seriously."

Owner Doug Anderson said his place will definitely open at 6 a.m. this morning. And Hi*Rise will be much more than a bakery -- although it will bake its own bread. Open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, it will also be a fast breakfast joint, a lunch destination and, from its spot right at the corner of 22nd and Larimer streets, a good hangout in a fast-changing neighborhood.

So if you're stuck in a long breakfast line at Snooze today, take a quick break and check out the new kid down the block.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
