"We feel like we're competitive now with the other businesses," Manzanares says.

But even before petitioning to serve liquor, Highlands Cork & Coffee had at least one competitive advantage over surrounding neighborhood joints: Snuggies, which they offer to chilly patrons on their year-round patio.
