The Digs: Mezcal is everything an East Colfax cantina should be: ablaze in bright colors and funky wall art, loud and lively and outfitted with a bar that boasts copious amounts of tequila and mezcal. It's the kind of festive joint that makes us want to boogie and drink far beyond the realm of moderation. If you aren't in the mood to join the fiesta at the bar, grab a booth in the dining area, where you can still be a part of the scene while enjoying a little privacy. And Mezcal has a patio, too, which is great for watching the characters cruise the 'Fax.
The Verdict: True, Mezcal has some downfalls: The service kind of sucks when the bar is slow, and the margaritas aren't the best we've ever had, but they're mixed with a heavy, heavy hand and poured in pint glasses. As for the food, it's not mind-blowing, but honestly, slurping tequila and munching on sopes ($4.50) is a beautiful way to spend a late, lazy afternoon, especially in a boisterous and invigorating atmosphere that flows with tequila.Overall Grade: B
