Following in the footsteps of such rival fast-food chains as Burger King, McDonald's and Wendy's, Sonic Drive-In is now offering twelve items for a dollar each on its new Everyday Value Menu. The deals are available all day long, and include the Jr. Deluxe Burger, Chicken Strip Sandwich, Jr. Fritos Chili Cheese Wrap and Jr. Breakfast Burrito, as well as four flavors of Jr. Candy Sundaes, Small Tots, Small Fries, Small Famous Slush, Small Soft Drink, Vanilla Cone and Fresh Banana (caps all courtesy of Sonic).
Yep, that's right, a fresh banana. I don't know if I've ever seen a piece of raw fruit available in its natural form on a fast-food menu, but I have to give Sonic kudos for trying. Pretty much nothing else on its menu qualifies as even remotely healthy, but at least a banana would add some balance to your grease- and sugar-laden meal here. Heck, throw in that vanilla cone, and you could even fool yourself into thinking that you're getting your calcium for the day, too.
Sonic has had a big success with its daily drink happy hour from 2 to 4 p.m., when all soft drinks, slushes, limeades and iced teas are half off. Combine that deal with a couple of dollar-priced treats, and you'll really have something to be happy about. --Aubrey Shoe
