R Bazaar was founded earlier this year by Michelle Lasnier with a goal to "bridge refugee and immigrant communities with local populations through the love of international food and entrepreneurship." On Tuesday, December 12, R Bazaar held its holiday market at the Spring Institute (1373 Grant Street), offering rare culinary treats, including Turkish street food from the Turkish Chef on Wheels food truck, Ethiopian specialties from Mesob, Iraqi and Afghan breads from Zamzam and Idri's markets, and sweets and snacks representing Peru, Syria and other ports of call. Shoppers also had their pick of jewerly, art, textiles and crafts from a variety of international vendors. Lasnier hopes to make R Bazaar a monthly event in 2018.
