Standing Rock experienced a massive influx of visitors over the Thanksgiving weekend: Over 10,000 people came from all over the country to protest the Dakota Pipeline. Since the camp formed in August, representatives from over 300 tribes have joined with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, and now other supporters are joining in. But after this unprecedented number of visitors arrived in his state, North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple issued a mandatory evacuation order on Monday November 28: "Any action or inaction taken by any party which encourages persons to enter, reenter, or remain in the evacuation area will be subject to penalties as defined in law."
