By the time Black Shirt Brewing opened behind a bright-red door in the RiNo neighborhood in 2012, owners Branden, Chad and Carissa Miller had poured their soul into every detail of the place -- from the bar and tables, which are made from refurbished train-car floors, to the slanted Offero glasses that accentuate the aromas and flavor of hops and malt, to the beer itself: red ales, and red ales only. But that painstaking attention to the small things shows when neighbors, out-of-towners and local chefs and foodies show up to quaff the wide variety of red beer. The "set list," as Black Shirt calls its menu, is always changing, but the commitment to doing things right stays the same. The backyard beer garden seats 36 and features cornhole games, strings of white lights at night, and three-year-old hops plants in garden boxes alongside barley and crimson clover. In the spring of 2015, Black Shirt unveiled an outdoor stage that hosts a variety of local acts.
