Today’s Vlad the Impaler’s Fair and Expo is “really just an excuse to get a big group of people together for a DIY event,” reveals Chris Loffelmacher, programming director for the Denver Public Library’s Fresh City Life. “So rather than choose something that was Twilight-y, I wanted to choose something that had connotations of real spookiness and scariness of the holiday. That said, we love irony around here, so we paired it with a fair and expo.”
Novo Coffee and Mad Wine, at 1200 Acoma Street, will host the fair/expo, where attendees can sample four crafts at different DIY sites, from 3 to 6 p.m. “We kind of run the gamut from technique-based and a little more complex — like the ‘Altered Letter to a Vampyre’ — to stuff that you can easily step up to on the quick,” says Loffelmacher. “And they really run from the sublime to the ridiculous.”
The price is also ridiculous: The event is free, which means you can spend your cash on the drink specials that Novo and Mad Wine will be offering, which Loffelmacher promises are “universal type O negative-compatible.” Registration is required; sign up at http://denverlibrary.org/fresh or by calling 720-865-1206.
