The Capuchin Franciscan friars — the subjects of this evening’s Trivia Night fundraiser — are, in many ways, a blast from the past. As event spokeswoman Rose Lane points out via e-mail, the members of the local order, who range from their mid-twenties to late eighties, wear brown robes straight out of a Robin Hood movie and follow the teachings of St. Francis — and “they are willing to help whenever and wherever help is needed.”

Of course, the friars need a hand once in a while, too. Hence this evening’s trivia showdown, during which teams of two to six players will compete to raise funds earmarked to aid the group’s mission. A number of friars plan to attend, no doubt lending the occasion an appropriately gothic air. As for the questions, they’ll “cover a variety of general topics,” Lane notes, “including some religious and Capuchin questions to really get them thinking!”

Pssst! St. Francis’s birthday was September 26, and his annual feast day takes place on October 4. You’re welcome.

The Trivia Night gets under way at 6:30 p.m. at, appropriately, the Cheeky Monk Belgian Beer Cafe, 534 East Colfax Avenue. There’’s a $20-per-person charge to participate, and pre-registration is required. Get details at 303-632-2288 or www.midamcaps.org.
