Boy, those folks at the Arvada Center’s annual Colorado Cowboy Poetry Gathering really know how to end a run. This year’s fest, which each year assembles rural bards from across the country (and, occasionally, from around the world) for an intensive five-day celebration of poetry and music inspired by ranching culture, benefited from a little family-friendly tweaking, which allowed for more family-style events interspersed throughout. And today’s Flapjack Breakfast and Concert, a fitting final yee-haw! (and the capper for a fine twentieth-anniversary event), follows suit.

Stack up your plates with hotcakes, then enjoy music by Colorado-bred Westcliffe bluegrassers Sons and Brothers, who like to call their unique, homespun blend of Western, bluegrass and gospel music “West-grass,” today beginning at 11 a.m., in the Arvada Center ballrooms, 6901 Wadsworth Boulevard in Arvada. Host Gary McMahan (the famous mustachioed Colorado cowpoke featured in a mural on the side of the William Matthews Gallery in LoDo) and South Dakotan versifier Yvonne Hollenbeck contribute to the entertainment end of the morning, which costs $36 for adults and $15 for children ages five to fourteen.

Here’s to feeling full, and satisfied, too! For details and tickets, visit www.arvadacenter.org or call 720-898-7200.
