Some people just stand out. Whether their style is cutting-edge, quirky or just well executed, they make you want to know: How do they do it? Because we work for you, dear reader, we’re finding out. Each day, we hit the streets and talk to one person who catches our eye and makes us look twice. Today, we caught up with Jared Geurts, who’s understated, classic black-T ensemble balanced out his enormous ear-plugs for a look that was sharp and a little daring, but not overwhelming. Find out how he does it after the jump.
Name: Jared Geurts Occupation: The Crypt employee Age: 24
Westword: Where do you get your fashion inspiration? Jared Geurts: Well, I guess I prefer a very simplistic style. But I also listen to a lot of IDM music, so I guess that’s an influence, as well.
IDM Music? JG: Intelligent Dance Music.
Will you step up to support Westword this year?
At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $22,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
So how does that influence your style? JG: Well, I like to keep it very simple and comfortable, so I guess my style comes from the way the music makes me feel, which is just very calm and at ease.
Where do you like to shop? JG: I shop at The Crypt, American Apparel. I do a lot of shopping online.
What’s your favorite article of clothing you own? JG: A black cardigan from American Apparel.
