Owning an old house is a real labor of love — and so is putting on an old house fair, says Elizabeth Jeanne Wheeler of Denver’s Old House Society. With an emphasis on labor in both cases.
But all of the nonprofit’s hard work will pay off at its fourth Old House Fair, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Highland Masonic Temple Center (itself a historic old building), 3550 Federal Boulevard. The lineup includes ten workshops covering everything from saving antique floors to understanding Denver’s new zoning code. New this year? Drawings for service and product prizes, and “you can also go shopping!” says Wheeler. For the first time, the fair is featuring several retailers “who are offering furniture and accessories that are appropriate for everything from Denver’s earliest houses to houses from the ’60s,” she notes. And yes, fifty years old qualifies as an old house.
