At FarmFest, you’ll get more than a mere slice of country life. In no particular order, there will be hayrides, pony rides, a horse belly bounce house, twenty country-style carnival games (cow feeding, horseshoe toss, etc.), facepainting and the chance to feed goats, then groom a miniature horse. Crafty members of the crowd might paint a pumpkin plucked from the monstrous patch or make a scarecrow, all while listening to jams flow from Rudy and the Buffalo Riders, Briar Branch and Porch Jam. Natural Genius and Urban Mud will teach composting, backyard chicken keeping, seed saving, vermicomposting and sustainable building techniques at free workshops held throughout the day.
And come hungry! From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the farm is dishing up Jim ’N Nick’s famous barbeque, along with caramel apples, popcorn, pastries and beer, all at 10200 Smith Road. Admission is $1 per person, and activity and food tickets are also a buck. On-grounds parking is available, or walk in from the Sand Creek trail. For more information, call 303-307-9332.
