On Donner, On Blitzen

The Hyatt Regency Denver, 650 15th Street, will roll out the red carpet — and the priority sleigh parking at the hotel’s porte cochere entrance — when three very important visitors touch down from 1 to 5 p.m. today (and again tomorrow and Sunday). And this is no humans-in-mammal-costumes affair: Donner and Blitzen will be there in the flesh. “Donner and Blitzen are real, live reindeer,” promises Hyatt spokeswoman Maryann Yuthas.

The Colorado ranch-raised reindeer will be in pens, petting-zoo style, and children who donate a new pair of mittens or gloves will get to meet the hoofed helpers and enjoy a free cup of hot chocolate. (The donated goods will go to homeless shelters that help children and families, among them Samaritan House and the Volunteers of America’s Brandon Center.)

For older celebrants, Peaks Lounge, on the 27th floor of the hotel, will be serving up holiday concoctions all month, including Donner and Blitzen namesake cocktails and a White Blizzard Chocolate Martini. The drinks are available for purchase ― but the incredible view of the city is free. For more information, call 303-426-1234 or go to www.denverregency.hyatt.com.
