The kids have been on school break, and if you’ve got cabin fever after being cooped up with them, a trip to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science might just be the cure. Ticket prices can add up when you’re taking the whole family, which is why the SCFD Community Free Day, presented by the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District, is a great opportunity to catch the exhibitions you’ve been meaning to get to.

The free admission usually only grants access to the museum’s permanent exhibitions, like Expedition Health and Prehistoric Journey, but today it also includes Whales: Giants of the Deep. For the other temporary exhibition, Traveling the Silk Road, guests will have to pay a fee ($8 for adults, $5 for children and $7 for seniors), so plan accordingly.

“The Silk Road was a network of routes that spread exotic goods as well as ideas from China to the Roman Empire,” says DMNS marketing coordinator Allison Rindels of the latter. “The exhibition really brings this historic route to life. We have historic re-enactors portraying traders, merchants and scholars that help tell the story.”

The SCFD Community Free Day runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the DMNS, 2001 Colorado Boulevard. For more information, visit dmns.org or call 303-370-6000.
