Since it premiered in 2002, American Idol has been responsible for launching the careers (and dashing the dreams) of many aspiring pop stars; it’s also created something that the American public was excited about voting for. Now entering its thirteenth season, the reality TV show is back with a whole new gaggle of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood wannabes ready to belt their hearts out in hopes of finding fame.
Idol fans can experience the premiere of the show in person tonight at a special free screening and follow-up satellite Q&A with host Ryan Seacrest and judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. at the AMC Highlands Ranch 24, 103 West Centennial Boulevard in Highlands Ranch. American Idol XIII premieres at 5 p.m., with doors opening at 4. RSVPs are required and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis; submit yours at idolrsvp.com.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
