If you grew up ’round these parts, then you know how Colorado history was shaped by its mountain men. Which is why the Tesoro Foundation’s annual 1830s Rendezvous and Spanish Colonial Market is “not the type of event you would find anywhere else,” says spokesman Wayne Lindsey. “You have twenty-some of Colorado and New Mexico’s best Spanish Colonial artists; some of these artists are in the Smithsonian Institution. The artwork is just unbelievable. And the culture of that artwork started in the 1800s, and it’s coupled with an actual rendezvous that is dated back to the same time period. And the rendezvous events make it really unique. You get to visit the encampment, learn how to start a fire with flint and steel, and kids can even learn how to throw a tomahawk. So you’re really getting a good flavor of that time period.”

Plus, because the Rendezvous and Market are taking place at the Fort, the surroundings are about as authentic as it gets. This year there will also be live music and dancing and an expanded farmers’ market. The fun starts on September 19 and continues September 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fort, 19192 Highway 8 in Morrison.
