Jonathan Powell Quintet

Originally from Largo, Florida, trumpet player Jonathan Powell moved to New York City in 2001. In 2003 he earned praise for his participation in Sam Rivers Fluid Motion. The same year he formed the group Nu Sangha and released “Transcend”. The band's newest release “Beacons of Light” earned a four star review in Down Beat. In 2021, Jonathan relocated to Colorado to take a position with the US Air Force Academy Band. Since his move to Colorado he has co-released a record featuring 10-time Grammy award winner Eddie Palmieri titled “Eddie Palmieri presents: Solar Sonido”.

Jonathan performs with a wide variety of artists as a sideman, including: Blood, Sweat and Tears, Eddie Palmieri and his Latin Jazz Septet and Salsa Orchestra, Arturo O' Farrill's Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Darcy James Argue's Secret Society, Miguel Zenon, Sam Rivers, Pedro Giraudo, Ricky Martin and JT Taylor of Kool and the Gang. With these artists and many more Jonathan has taken part in more than a dozen Grammy Nominated and Grammy Winning albums. In 2016 he signed on with Yamaha to be an exclusive endorsee of Yamaha trumpets and Flugelhorns.
