Yes, we know. That's a loaded question and also an unreasonable query. Best of anything is relative. Music is subjective. It isn't and shouldn't be a competition. While we tend to agree with all that, we feel compelled to inform you that the folks at KBPI are once again in search of the BBID. The deadline for submissions is Friday, October 2. Voting to for the initial bands begins at noon that same same day and runs through 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 7. Then, beginning Saturday, October 10, the bands in contention will perform each Saturday at Eck's Saloon. Past winners include Adam's Ruin, Lost Point and 20XIII. There's a whole list of dos and don'ts on the station's website for those interested in earning this year's bragging rights. Have at it.
Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
