The New Bomb Turks, Saturday, November 11, at Mammoth Events Center, with Lag Wagon, Samiam, No Doubt, Pietasters, Teengenerate, Strung Out, Buck-O-Nine, Slapstick and the rest of the participants in the Board As Usual ’95 festival, hail from Columbus, Ohio, a sleepy university town known primarily for being, well, home to the New Bomb Turks. And that’s enough, really. Because pound for pound, the knuckle-dragging rants produced by these punchy buckeyes have more chutzpah than all of So-Cal’s punk-popsters combined; lead howler Jim Weber’s fiery Iggy-speak alone packs enough of a wallop to shake the San Andreas fault line. This is punk rock served Midwest style: It’s a dose of straight-up adrenaline without the sappy, radio-friendly chaser. Try it, kids. You might like it.
