Depending on how you look at it, Transhypnotic is Denver’s Devo — or maybe just a bunch of guys who like wearing funny outfits and crafting clever music. Playground Politics, the band’s debut, is a curious, spacey oddity that blends arena-rock riffage with synth pop and new-wave-style angularity. Transhypnotic’s three members clearly like to play — with words, with song structure and, ultimately, with the audience. So what if sometimes they’re the only ones who get the joke? Music is supposed to be fun, a fact of which Transhypnotic is refreshingly aware. The band performs on Tuesday, August 13, at Herman’s Hideaway as part of the club’s New Talent Showcase series; Fallen Short, Overhand Right and Sagacious Ace are also on the bill.
