Despite my repeated pleas, a people's poll and the work of the good folks at nodinger.org, Dinger, the Colorado Rockies' insipid dinosaur mascot, somehow survived the last season, and is once again ready to bare his belly at Coors Field.
The Washington Nationals have the right idea – they’re keeping their Dinger on ice. When that team opens its season against the Atlanta Braves at the new Nationals Stadium, one of the items offered in the lineup will be the Dinger – an ice cream sandwich created by Gifford’s, an institution in the D.C. area that will sell the confection not just at the stadium, but at local shops -- with 15 percent of the sales going to the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation.
Good eats for a good cause -- let's just hope the Colorado Rockies don’t threaten to sue over the Dinger name, as they did Rocktober. -- Patricia Calhoun
