Best of Denver winner Sandy Clough has a reputation as the last angry man of local sports-talk radio -- a thirty-year veteran of the market who figuratively shouts from his yard at all the kids playing in the vicinity. In truth, he's no ol' yeller. But because he uses his formidable intellect to relentlessly hammer his points home, plenty of listeners walk away from his program feeling as if they've been perforated -- which explains why he's been moved around the The Fan's schedule so often over the years. And he's been relocated again. In a shuffle going into effect this week, Clough and Mike Evans, teamed under The Sports Guys heading, have been split up, with Evans joining forces with Scott Hastings from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Alfred Williams, Hastings' old partner, sharing the studio with Darren "D-Mac" McKee.

The strategy makes sense especially when it comes to Hastings and Williams. Since both of them have the same loopy personality, their shows often seemed like an incomprehensible private joke. They need to be paired with straight men, and Evans and McKee fit the bill. Unfortunately, though, the mix-up relegates Clough to the 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. slot, when far fewer people tune in. On the positive side, though, he'll be interrupted less often, giving him the chance to pontificate to his heart's content. Filibuster or bust.
