Support the independent voice of Denver and help keep the future of Westword free.
If you aren’t over-cinematized from the Denver Film Festival, you may want to check out We Are Wizards, starting at the Starz FilmCenter, 900 Auraria Parkway, on November 26. The film looks at the heady and often hilarious world of Harry Potter fandom, from wand-waving tween rock stars to fan fiction writers waging war on corporate booksellers.
The best part of all may its inclusion of one of the strangest – and most hilarious – odes to the boy wizard: Wizard People, Dear Readers, comic book artist Brad Neely’s reworking of the first Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Neely replaced the film’s soundtrack with his own commentary, á la Mystery Science Theater 3000. Check out a sample of the quite unusual results below, which involves a scene with those famous Hogwarts wizards, "Quirman, Monster Mash and Zoomacroom." -- Joel Warner
