If you're a Denver Broncos fan, then you've no doubt endured a broadcast featuring either NBC's Chris Collinsworth or Phil Simms, who calls games for CBS. Both have earned the enduring hatred of Broncos fans over the years because of what some would say is a clear bias against the beloved orange-and-blue warriors of the gridiron. And that would be no surprise, as Collinsworth played wide receiver for the rival Cincinnati Bengals in the 1990s and Simms was quarterback for the New York Giants during the Super Bowl in which that team beat the Broncos.
But after last Sunday's match-up with the Kansas City Chiefs, some Broncos fans have had enough of Simms. On September 15, someone started a petition on Change.org asking CBS to ban Simms from calling Broncos games -- and by Thursday, the move had garnered more than 40,000 signatures.
"We do not know why he is assigned to the Broncos games every year. It is sure and complete torture for Bronco Fans to have to listen to his biased drivel every week," reads the petition. "Please sign this petition so our voice can be heard. We are tired of Phil Simms in Denver!"
Some of the amusing comments from signees include:
-- I'm signing because Phil Simms doesn't give insight to the viewers. Instead he indirectly attacks the broncos organization and fans. Most likely because of personal matters possibly stemming from his son not working out when he was on the team.
-- He does not add anything to the games, he actual takes away from it. We have to mute most of the game! Rather than announce he gives his opinion on EVERYTHING, if you let him he probably would talk about coach Fox's underwear color is wrong.
-- Phil Simms is one of the most biased broadcasters (Cris Collinsworth is the other). He is supposed to broadcast the game not throws in his worthless opinions always against the Broncos.
-- Phil has the worst case of diarrhea of the mouth that I know of!
-- I'm signing because I am tired of Phil Simms' biased and un-colorful commentary. He (for years) has called the games, blatantly rooting against Denver on National Television. As I have no choice but to watch the broadcast as it's presented by CBS, I am adamantly against Phil Simms as the commentator.
